For those of you who are attending the SLA conference, please take note of something new you learned at the conference or a neat experience you had and share with the MTKN group by posting to the members wiki.

NTKN topics discussed at annual meeting.....
Aside from the membership debate which most are aware of by now.....
Some other highlights which I retained from the NTKN meeting include:
1. Need for formal strategic plan, and need to decide who responsible/how it will be created
2. Space/Place for an independent NTKN website, was discovered that NTKN.org is available as a domain
3. Need to gain momentum on the NTKN projects already underway from last year
4. Future NTKN site may want to contain: Common reference questions; Best practices; Internal policies not readily accessible to the public; Success stories (from all participating libraries)......organizing and editing will be the big issues, who is going to have editing permission on the site?
5.Will we have funding for dedicated staffing or consultants, someone for instance who could manage the NTKN site, etc.
6. Need to investigate the Medical and Agriculture Libraries national network models, i.e. how do they handle the issue of federal grant money be used to assist private sector libraries in their networks?
This is only the tip of the iceberg, but it's what stuck in my mind.
Conference Overview
Maybe it's me, but I felt like the conference was a little sparse this year. The session diden't speak to much as well. Fortunately, the "tacked on" meetings (GTRIC, TranDiv, LIST, etc...) all provided a lot of forward momentum. One idea I did pick up on, though, was to try and get datasets attached to electronic .pdf files. That way researchers can use them in the future, they'll be preserved, and the library can manage them.
Conference is very good so far ...
We are in the second day of the conference. It has been very interesting so far. We've had some very good discussions during GTRIC yesterday, including discussion about the 'Sources of Information in Transportation' (led by Rita), management considerations for digitization projects (presented by Roberto) and how we deal with different sorts of data (presented by Kendra).
